MultiRoofs Consortium Meeting in Brussels

On 20–21 October 2025, partners of the MultiRoofs consortium, together with the Interreg North-West Europe (NWE) Project Officer, gathered in Brussels, Belgium, for a two-day workshop and consortium meeting hosted at FARI – AI for the Common Good Institute and BruCity.

The meeting aimed to consolidate project progress, address shared challenges, and define a clear roadmap for the next phases of MultiRoofs, supporting the transition from conceptual frameworks to concrete implementation of urban rooftop solutions. Through presentations, technical sessions and open discussions, partners aligned on communication, technical development and strategic direction, while reinforcing collaboration across the consortium.

Day 1 @ FARI — AI for the Common Good Institute, Brussels

Aligning communication and visibility

The workshop opened with an update on MultiRoofs communication and visibility activities, including the launch of the project’s branding pack and digital channels. Discussions highlighted the importance of clear and consistent messaging to engage stakeholders and support the uptake of project results.

Partners underlined the role of local and regional actors in sharing project stories, promoting results and increasing visibility. Testimonials and shared communication tools were identified as key elements to support long-term impact and sustainability beyond the project’s lifetime.

Exploring immersive tools: CAVE visit and technical exchange

Participants visited FARI’s Computer Augmented Virtual Environment (CAVE), where live demonstrations showcased the potential of immersive and advanced visualisation tools. These technologies were discussed in relation to stakeholder engagement, scenario-building and decision-making for urban rooftop transformation.

Partners emphasized the importance of linking visual scenarios to measurable impacts and actionable outcomes, highlighting the need for a strong feedback loop to guide future technical developments.

Advancing technical foundations

Technical sessions focused on data governance, 3D building modelling and tool development. Key design principles were confirmed, including the adoption of common data standards and a phased testing approach across participating local authorities.

Discussions also addressed varying levels of local readiness and engagement, reinforcing the need for clear value propositions and stronger internal coordination within public administrations to support implementation.

Day 2 – BruCity, Brussels

Aligning vision, purpose and impact

Day 2 opened with a presentation by the City of Brussels, showcasing its Climate Plan and the 10-Minute City tool, and illustrating how urban rooftop strategies can contribute to broader goals of climate resilience, spatial efficiency and sustainable urban development.

The morning was dedicated to a collective reflection on the project’s purpose, expectations and priorities, guided by five key questions. Discussions confirmed a shared ambition to unlock the potential of urban rooftops in response to climate challenges and space constraints.

While perspectives varied (from policy impact to technical tools and on-the-ground implementation) partners agreed that project deliverables are a means to achieve impact, rather than an end in themselves.

In the afternoon, partners further refined roles and jointly reviewed upcoming timelines to ensure alignment. With a shared understanding of the project’s “why”, attention is now turning to how MultiRoofs will deliver tangible impact.

Looking ahead

The Brussels workshop reinforced alignment across the MultiRoofs consortium and clarified the path forward. The next phases of the project will focus on translating shared knowledge into actionable tools, strengthening engagement with property owners and stakeholders, and ensuring strong links between pilot actions, training and dissemination activities.

Overall, the meeting marked a decisive step in moving MultiRoofs from strategy to action, supporting the development of scalable urban rooftop solutions for climate transition across North-West Europe.
