MultiRoofs Kicks Off Event in Rotterdam

Rethinking Rooftops

On March 27 and 28, the MultiRoofs consortium launched its collaborative initiative with a two-day kick-off event in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Bringing together public authorities, research institutions, NGOs, and private entities from across Northwest Europe, the project aims to reimagine city rooftops as multifunctional spaces using innovative digital twin technology.

Representatives from all partner organizations and institutions engaged in a series of dynamic workshops, collaborative brainstorming sessions, and strategic planning meetings. These interactive sessions fostered alignment of goals and helped establish a unified vision for the project’s intended impact. A central theme was the transformative potential of rooftop spaces—envisioned as scalable, multifunctional assets that can address some of Northwest Europe’s most urgent urban challenges, including climate adaptation, affordable housing, sustainable energy production, and the creation of more livable, green cities.

The launch event aimed to foster mutual understanding, creativity, and strategic alignment. MultiRoofs is an Interreg North-West Europe (NWE) project that unites a diverse group of partners, from cities and universities to NGOs and private sector innovators. The consortium’s goal is to unlock the full potential of rooftops for sustainable urban development.
