On 17 June, MultiRoofs partner Île-de-France Region brought the project to VivaTech in Paris, sharing its ambitions and ongoing work with the audience of one of Europe’s major technology and innovation events.
On the Île-de-France Region stand, Gwennaelle Costa Le Vaillant and Frédérique Vinay delivered a presentation entitled “MultiRoofs: European cooperation to turn rooftops into multifunctional assets for territories”. Their intervention put the spotlight on how cooperation between European regions and partners can help unlock the potential of rooftops and turn them into practical tools for more resilient territories.
Bringing MultiRoofs to the innovation community
The VivaTech session was an opportunity to present MultiRoofs through the concrete experience of the Île-de-France Region and its pilot action.
The speakers highlighted how the Region is exploring the use of artificial intelligence and a sovereign 3D digital twin to make rooftop transformation easier to understand and act upon. By combining territorial data with a conversational AI assistant, the approach aims to help users explore different possibilities for rooftops and access information adapted to their needs.
The presentation also illustrated how this solution could build on existing regional digital tools and help translate data and analysis into concrete actions supporting the ecological transition.At a time when the impacts of climate change are becoming increasingly tangible, the ambition is also to make the ecological transition accessible to everyone, through personalised and action-oriented digital services that help citizens and territories turn information into action.
Innovation driven by real needs
A key message shared at VivaTech was that technological innovation needs to respond to the realities faced by citizens and territories.
The Region presented insights into what people expect from their rooftops – from renewable energy production to water management and biodiversity – as well as some of the barriers that can prevent them from taking action, including financial concerns and a lack of clear or accessible information.
For MultiRoofs, involving citizens in the development of solutions is therefore an important part of turning innovative concepts into services that are simple, useful and capable of supporting real decisions.
A local pilot with a European perspective
The intervention also provided an opportunity to underline the European dimension behind the work being carried out in Île-de-France.
While the solution is being developed in response to the Region’s own context and needs, the ambition is to explore how this type of approach could be replicated and adapted to other European territories. This combination of local experimentation and European cooperation is at the heart of the MultiRoofs approach.
By presenting MultiRoofs at VivaTech, the Île-de-France Region brought this European cooperation into a major forum for technological innovation, showing how digital innovation, citizen needs and territorial expertise can come together to support more resilient and sustainable cities.
